Brief Life Sketch
Edward is Willis’ father.
As a young man he would go to Cedar Mountain and set cedar trees on fire, then go back the next day and gather the charcoal and sell it to the blacksmith.
He participated in the “Hole In The Rock” expedition, but elected to come back to Oak City. On his return his wife, Mary Miranda says,” He was about the sorriest looking specimen I have ever seen. He was worn and tired with weeks of a long hard journey and his clothes were in tatters.”
He and his brothers formed The Lyman Brothers Company and engaged in farming, livestock, sawmills, mining, and general merchandise. The sawmills burned down twice and Edward and his family moved to Ogden to work off a debt owed to the Consolidated Wagon Company.
He was known as a man of complete integrity and honesty. He was also known to have a temper. Willis Lyman, his son, said, “He was fearless, ready to fight anyone if he considered it a matter of honor or in defense of his rights.
