“What if Edward Comes?”

by Bentley Lyman and ChatGPT

We flip up the pancakes, we sizzle the ham,
We fry up the eggs on a skillet and pan.
With cousins and family, we gather in May,
To cook up a feast in the traditional way!

We do it for hundreds, we do it with cheer,
We do it and do it and do it each year!
We’ll cook and we’ll feast, we’ll flip and we’ll fry,
Until Edward Partridge comes down from the sky!

But what if, oh what if, he pulls up a chair?
What if he smiles and eats with us there?
Should we set down our ladles? Should we stop and be done?
No! We'll all keep on cooking—it’s just too much fun!

For pancakes must flip and ham must still fry,
And eggs must be sizzling, piled up high!
With cousins and kin, we'll gather and stay,
And feast with old Edward—each Memorial Day!

This is a skit that my friends Nelson, Boren, and I put together for young adults back in the 70s that I started doing with Phil after we got married.

Uncle John didn’t make it up to MDB as often as he used to but I really loved those skits. You see, those guys are a bit older than me and I remember loving their skits. So we brought a few of those skits back and I performed them.
